We all go a little mad sometimes.....

I'm sitting here attempting to write but I'm so creeped out by Anthony Perkins staring at me like that...man, Hitchcock knew how to make 'em, skREE, skREE, skREE....damn I'm really getting freaked out now...but suck it up Sheppard cause this is a creepy, scary, edge of your seat, think I just peed myself Halloween-esk update.....So let's stand and face the hounds of hell, but you first...

How bout something not sooo scary to start off with....(thanks Josh)...

Now for something spooky....I've been in LaLaLand for a little over two months and besides totally digging into the taco trucks I've also found a place for my work!!! Gold Bug is a super kickass shop in Pasadena...Not only is the work at Gold Bug totally awesome but so are Shelley, Stacey and Theodora, the family that runs this super cool place...They are having a 6th annual anniversary party this Friday and you are invited....so stop on by, check out all the killer new work and see what this shop is all about, oh and say Hi!!

The kind of freaky thing, Theodora pointed out that Evan Chambers also has his (ahhhmazing) work at Gold Bug and he also happened to be featured with me in last years Aug/Sept issue of American Craft , I had no idea....FReakY.....

For the past month I've been off the (social media) grid...and yes Schmidty I'm  back....what have I been doing...well, a bit of writing...I know, scary right....looks like I know a bit bout this jewelry thing and people wanna read what I have to say...gotta say that's pretty damn cool...So I'll keep ya posted when and where you can get your own copy which will have not only a "how to" by me but also a shot in a photo gallery spread, yes that means CSD makes two appearances in Art Jewelry Magazine!!! RAD!!!

And if you have not checked out this gem of a publication, crawl out from the rock you've been living under and check them out....

Visiting friends in San Fran (not a finger!!!) For the India lovers out there she's loving LA and our new roommates but she is still a lil princess.

I'm gonna leave ya with one last video...trying to decide if I should be my fav Tank Girl (again) for Halloween or go as Techno Viking ...my bro thinks I look like Techno Viking because of how I style my hair, I thought it would be cause of my rad dance moves or my facial hair...TG or TV??? Hard choice right??? They are both sooo badass...okay I know, Tank Girl could totally take Techno Viking...done....

Til next time....have a safe and fun Halloween filled with a palithera of sugar highs, wax lips and shenanigans....

'Cause when you are dreaming....you see for miles and miles.....

Oh damn Tommy boy you are so right....I've been dreaming bout LA for 6 months and now that I've moved here gotta say I see for miles...well at least to the Hollywood sign that I can see from my street....but now that I am among the laid back, sun kissed, tattooed and swarms of hipsters (almost as infections as zombies but more trendy, if that's even possible) I am ready to take on the city, full speed but is this city ready for me???
Set up and ready to Roll at the DMAF
Before we get too deep let's get down to some business....A recap of my last couple of events...Had a great time at the Des Moines Arts Festival, Stephen King (a much less scary Stephen than the author) and his crew really know how to take care of not only the artists but the peeps attending the event and the community...Thank you all for a great show, all your help (Tabitha you were ahhhmazing, much thanks for all the pee breaks) and for the awesome
press...
Also a big thank you to the La France family for hosting me for the weekend, you took really great care of me, many thanks to you all....
This is a great article about the 13 highlights of the DMAF, really flattered to be number one....hot damn...thank you....
Right after the DMAF I headed back home just in time to pass out, pack the car with more food and clothes and hit the road...next stop, Denver for the Cherry Creek Arts Festival...

I was there for a week, I took part in the preview show which was on Tuesday...was nice to see everyone come out and show their support, event was at the JW Marriott, perfect setting for all the rad art...The festival took place that following weekend on the streets of Cherry Creek, here are some photos and a kickass interview of ceramics artist Andy Rogers, painter Tres Taylor and me!!!

I see you shiver with antici... pation!!!

Wow!!! I know you all have been waiting so patiently and I thank you...I've been rocking n rolling...let's get started, shall we...but wait, gotta tell ya there really isn't anything sexy than Tim Curry in Drag...Hot Damn...I thought it would be nice to start this update off with a little bit of sex, makeup, punk, pearls and yes good old school Punk Rock!!! Think I'm feeling a little feisty...

Nothing makes a girl smile like a lil Ramones...expect maybe some fire, hammer and metal....ohhhh yeahhh that makes a girl shiver....

New happenings? Well,
since there's a show spree bout to happen I am busy working, creating, updating, making a mess of the studio, staying up too late, waking up too early and rocking out!!!

New sterling silver earrings....
What I dig the most bout these super fun...LIGHT...rad earrings are the back mechanism...

My first ever Omega clip earrings...being a self taught jewelry/metalsmith I just had to figure this out, looked at a ton of different photos..no books that I could find told you how to make all the mechanics by hand, all were prefabricated..not this one...was a blast...and holy shit it really works!!!

***

Okay kiddies...it's time to recap some bike radness...that's right, for those that want to move on, go pass Casey Time...this is the bike shit, won't hurt my feelings if your not into this awesomeness...

Think I left off with the Cycle Femmes ride...bunch of rad ladies getting together, riding bikes...was a great time and event...brought the momma out for it...she road my Grandad's cargo bike and she got to see a bit of my passion...was a great way to spend mothers day with one of the best ladies I know...thanks to Allison and Roxy for doing this and getting more peeps on bikes...

Platte Battle Royal...of course Cycle Work and Psycowpath put on a great event (still thinking bout my peanut butter burger...mmmmm)...I did marathon, so 4 hours of awesomeness with friends who really know how to kill it...I had a blast taking it chill cause the next week would be time to Rock and Roll with Syllamo's Revenge....

This was a year in waiting...Goal: to finish the race and to have fun....my pre race recon was filled with riding some rad trails, getting stuck in a downpour, getting lost and driving over a concrete barrier with my car (I'm not explaining this one)...
Wet Rocks

Awesome View

De-sanding Hidalgo after Recon
Race day consisted of riding with good friends, seeing a ton of people flat...including me...one rear which sealed up and front slashed side wall in the first 10 miles (booted with a dollar bill and nursed it to the finish)...One decent crash, lots of wet rocks that were like ice, hot steamy Arkansas weather....but I finished...still can't believe it...only took 10 hours 11 minutes...hardest thing I've ever done physically and mentally...

Big thank you to Rafal, Todd, Ryan, Roxy, Alex, Jayson, Sara, the guy that let me borrow his pump for 14 miles, the guy I DNFed with last year but finished with this year and the guy with the bug spray after check point 3...would not have finished with out you guys(well maybe not the bug spray guy but we'll include ya anyways)...best part of the race was when I sped into the finish, my friends were there cheering me on...Ahhhmazing...As I was driving back to the cabin after the race I was talking to my mom, telling her I was never going to do this ever again but when I woke up in the morning I was trying to figure out how to get there from LA next year!!!

Last race (probably) for this year and final Nebraska Race was Maskenthine, 7 milesish fun trail...I did marathon (of course) had a blast, was cold and rainy which made for a great race day....I was bad with my electrolytes (I know I know think after all the cramps I've had I'd learn) and had cramping again I stopped at 4 laps plus I had to hit the road to start work on my half sleeve tattoo...
half way done, only bout 3 1/2 hours left (note to my fam and parents:remember you love me, I'm an artist and I express myself and nothing is permanent but death and your mothers (families) love, right?)

Well that's bout it for racing...with the big move there isn't really much on the horizon...only a quick DH trip and more singletrack...I look forward to checking out new trails in LA and meeting new biking friends...oh and showing off my new rockin' DHing helmet that I pick up in July...now go out and get rad!!!

The Church Brew....

Hold on all...pull up a comfy seat, get a drink and snuggle in cause it's gonna be a long update...I've been on the road, things have been brewing and things are happening...

First off, update your little black books once again...my email address has changed...

casey@caseyshepparddesigns.com

There are a lot of changes happening at Casey Sheppard Designs, you will see that...if you have any feed back (good or bad) let me know...

So what is the answer to last weeks riddle?? Let me get you caught up first....

In my last update I was bout to venture on a two week long road trip art show frenzy...I made stops along the way to Chicago, Pittsburgh, Boston, Syarcus, Madison, Decorah, Minneapolis/St.Paul then back home again...I drove over 3500 miles, met with amazing people and saw some really amazing places...

Chicago was just a quick pit stop for a quick bite at Procesco with my friend Mirvat then bed before hitting the road early in the am...

Pittsburgh...okay, when I pulled into this town/city I had a hard time keeping my eyes on the road...it is one of the most unique places I've ever seen...it's so hard to put into words...it's so beautiful...very steep hills, no more like drop offs miles deep with metal staircases wildly gridded and woven from apartments to overpasses...such a strength in this organic terrain...then to add, everyone there is super nice...very down to earth...

I had a great time hanging out with my friend Kevin who took me around to his favorite parks, one even had a great bike trail (was regretting that I didn't bring my bike til I saw how muddy the trails were...)

If you are ever in Pittsburgh you really need to check out the Society for Contemporary Craft...the SCC has changing exhibitions, a grand gift shop and artist studio spaces...it's truly a gem...

(The confessional which is now the bar...RAD)
Another gem, Brigitte Martin ...she agreed to show we around the SCC and then took me out to lunch, we went to the Church Brew Works...a catholic church converted to a brew house/resturant...while indulging in my very first Pittsburgh Salad (yes, it's AWESome...french fries on top of a salad) Brigitte and I exchanged in mentor/mentoree conversations...I am thankful for our meeting, she has introduced me to a side of community in this industry that I have been longing for yet had not found...Thank you...while I left Brigitte to hit the road I was over come with a sense of purpose, drive and focus, it's a good thing I had a nine hour drive ahead to Boston and a voice recorder on my phone...as I sat in my car loading my GPS with directions to my next destination, I seriously considered blowing off my obligations to just take in more Pittsburgh, let's face it, I'd become smitten with this place...but at last my midwesterness kicked in and I was off to my next venture...

Brigitte's site Crafthaus

Boston....

As I spent the next 9 hours driving up to Boston, I came across some familiar signs, Poconos, Allentown, New York City, New Paulz...I tried to come up with a way to head into NYC for a night, just pop in, say hi to friends and leave...but no, onward to Boston...

Thursday AM, I set up at CraftBoston and meet my super fun neighbors...after having lunch on the pier and going for a small walk, I grabbed a coffee and got ready for the preview show...the night was fun filled, people taking great interest in all the creative works of art...after the show closed for the night, I headed back to the hotel for food and a good nights sleep...

As I awoke Friday, I learned that we were on lock down, you all know the turn of events, so I spend the day, watching some news, re introducing myself to the early 90's stair stepper and taking advantage of the time to write down all my thoughts, ideas and radness from my conversation with Brigitte...I spent the evening eating dinner at the bar, drinking some very delicious yet cheap wine and talking punk music with an english bloke (thank you btw, I enjoy talking music, especially punk rock)...was a good end to a very interesting day...
Beehive

Saturday and Sunday were filled with having great conversations with new people, making  new friends and making some sales...I really enjoying myself...thank you all who came out for such a great event and thank you CraftBoston for all the hard work....

I had dinner at a great restaurant called the Beehive with my friend and fellow exhibitor Kristin...great food, atmosphere and music...was great to see a bit of the local Boston...

Decorah Bike Trial
Sunday I loaded up, got lost with my GPS AGAIN...but paid off this time cause I got to drive by Fenway Park...I ended up driving to Syracuse, NY...next stop was to Decorah, Iowa to hang out with my Dad and Step Mom for a few days...I drove to Madison, WI, stayed the night and arrived in Decorah on Tuesday...I spent the day relaxing and hanging with Dad...I'd spend the next few days like this, enjoying dads cooking, conversions with them both and some cat snuggle time (thanks Socks)....I did get a ride in with my friend Shockey...if you get a chance check out the Decorah trails, was such a blast...thank you Shockey for showing me around...and to Decorah Bike Shop, Travis the owner had heard that I ride a Karate Monkey (actually the same one as his but his is rigid 1 x 9) and let me ride his bike, so I road like the locals and can't wait to go back...thanks to all, love the bike community, coming together...

Decorah Bicycles

Friday AM, I hit the road for my next show in St. Paul...for the St. Paul Art Crawl...I headed over to Susan studio to set up and we had a great time showing our jewelry together...the show had a really good turn out and I had another great show...I also made a few more connections/friends in the industry...I can't wait for my next time hanging out with Susan and Betty...also go my Johnson family time and finally got to met River...thanks guys for letting me stay with you and to all who came to the Art Crawl and Susan for the radness....

Susan Elnora's Website

Betty Jager's Website

Sunday I packed up and headed home, was so nice to finally be back in my house with my dog and MY bed...

Thank you all who took me in, helped me along the road, fed me and hung out with me...you all keep me sane, mostly...
